Fusion Boutique Presents – ‘Metro Social’ with TEN STRINGS AND A GOAT SKIN (CANADA) in Concert

Wednesday 11th April, 2018
TIME: 5:30pm – 9:00pm
in the Upstairs Lounge

Prince Edward Island trio TEN STINGS AND A GOAT SKIN announce their first tour of Australia in March/ April 2018. This dynamic bluegrass ensemble will perform at The National, Yackandandah and Fairbridge Folk Festivals, plus concerts in TAS, WA, NSW and VIC.

Transforming tradition with vigour, curiosity, humour and spark, this Canadian trio wielding bodhrán, acoustic guitar and violin plays seamless, polished, barrel-drum-tight, rhythmically innovative and wildly entertaining music. Singing in both French and English, they were awarded “World Music Recording of the Year” by Canada’s “East Coast Music Association”, been nominated for two Canadian Folk Music Awards, and received “Roots-Traditional Album of the Year” (2012) from Music PEI.

Brothers Caleb and Rowen Gallant wield Bodhrán and violin, while Jesse Périard drives acoustic guitar, now creating original songs and arrangements. Their recent album “Auprès du Poêle” weaves old-school Acadian roots (Franco-Canadian) with Breton, Irish and Scottish tunes, filled with wicked grooves and cunning quirks, featuring both traditional and original songs. Working closely with producer Leonard Podolak (The Duhks), Ten Strings and a Goat Skin pushed their music into new territory which promises to gather new listeners around the warm glow of fast-burning tradition.

“A seamless, polished, barrel-drum-tight, rhythmically innovative and wildly entertaining traditional music powerhouse.” “Toe-tapping fiddle tunes to heart-felt ballads … lively instrumentals and their breathtaking harmonies.” The Guardian

Fusion Boutique Presents – ‘Metro Social’ with DANIEL CHAMPAGNE + Special Guest KARL-CHRISTOPH in Concert

Sunday 10th June, 2018
TIME: 5:00pm – 9:00pm
in the Upstairs Lounge

Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably whisk the heart up with grand romanticism. Coupled with an exhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band, Champagne is just magical’ – themusic.com.au

The story goes that the young Australian singer, songwriter and one-of-a-kind guitar virtuoso first picked up his instrument of choice as a five-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing solo wherever he could, honing his craft and developing what would become the dynamite live show that he is renowned for today. At 18 he left school, turned professional and hit the road.

As one reviewer recently wrote, “still in his early twenties, the distances he has been would be more frequently associated with veterans of the Folk scene” – The Dwarf
Daniel has accomplished all of this while writing, producing and independently releasing two Eps, Gypsy Moon Volumes 1 and 2, his first long player ‘Pint of Mystery’ (2011) ‘My Own Design’ (2009), ‘Wide Eyed and Open’ (2010), ‘Real Live’ (2012), and ‘The Heartland Hurricanes’ (2014). His latest release “Fault Lines” is available now, and is receiving airplay and accolades globally.
A review of his two Gypsy Moon releases said the following: “Champagne has gone a step further this time, it’s like he’s realised his own potential, his confidence is sky-high and he’s truly ready to explore” – Australia’s roots music bible Rhythms Magazine

Now regarded as a leading light in acoustic music, with a firm reputation for making festivals buzz, holding crowds in his palm, dropping jaws and breaking guitars wherever he goes. Daniel Champagne has relocated to North America where he continues his exciting career as an international touring and recording artist.

“Daniel Champagne is a crossroads. Fusing the strong traditions of Blues, Folk and other roots art with pop showmanship and admirable lyrical ability. I firmly believe that he will become an ambassador for roots music in a time where it desperately needs representation.”
 – The Indie Blender, Canada
“One of the more amazing young percussive guitarists touring the world right now”
 – Blank, Gold Coast, Australia
“The superb talent of Daniel Champagne can’t be explained by mere words; it must be seen to be believed.”
 – FasterLouder, Australia
“There’s a reason Champagne has an amazing reputation as a live performer.”
 – Timber And Steel, Australia

Fusion Boutique Presents – ‘Metro Social’ with HELLO TUT TUT + Special Guests DEVIL ON THE ROOFTOP in Concert

Friday 6th July, 2018
TIME: 5:00pm – 9:00pm
in the Upstairs Lounge

Hello Tut Tut are dynamic and daring when it comes to creating original music. Tapping into their European roots, the band has a fresh take on the Klezmer, Balkan, Gypsy and Latin musical traditions. By blending these styles with the pulse of contemporary dance music, this seven-piece brings a high energy show that gets you up and dancing.
They have made a speedy ascent on the World Music scene, winning over local and international crowds with their performances at Falls Festival (Byron Bay), Bello Winter Music Festival, Live en Août (New Caledonia), Rainbow Serpent Festival and a collection of Australia’s most recognised venues and night markets.
The group have recently completed their third Australian tour, returning to Melbourne to finalise their debut album which is set for release in March 2018.
“Total boogie times” — The Music
“Dynamic and loads of fun, this band is the hottest new group on the world music scene in Australia, paving new directions in original Eastern European inspired party music!” — Tania Bosak (Open Studio)
“This could just be the best thing at [Falls] festival” — The Music
Devil on the Rooftop are a fantastical realm between Eastern European folk tunes, Bluegrass and something else…
DOTR is combination of the talents of Jess Randall (The Crooked Fiddle Band) and Morgan Haselden (Mimosa).
Jess Randall entangles her classical background with a gut-wrenching no-holds-barred approach to traditional fiddling styles. She has toured Europe, The UK, Scandinavia and Australia on many occasions with her other musical love, The Crooked Fiddle Band.
Jess’ love of ‘faster than you can actually play’ Romanian fiddle style and appreciation of it’s parallelism with hard-driving Bluegrass set her off on a quest to train-wreck the genres into something more than the sum of it’s parts, finally emerging with Devil on the Rooftop.
Morgan Haselden founded ‘Mimosa’, a modern Gypsy duo, which has toured Australia and France. Morgan has studied under some of Australia’s best classical guitarists and performs regularly as a Classical and Gypsy performer.
